We are living in times where data flourishes in making decision

We are living in times where data flourishes in making decision for businesses. Almost all companies have information about their customers stored in one way or another. As data builds up, organizations have to be creative and advance their business process. Big data analytics lets organizations analyze large volume and different varieties of data that supports evidence-based in their decision making and action taking for high quality patient care (Thew, 2016).  One potential benefit of using big data as part of a clinical system is productivity improvement which in turn improves patient care (Wang et al., 2018). By understanding how the equipment are used with patient information, you can make improvements on current resources. For example, data collection can be automated versus manual entering it (Strachan, 2018). This can increase productivity by less time charting and more time spent with patients and their care. One potential challenge or risk of using big data as part of a clinical system is data security. Data security is the number one priority for all  healthcare organizations. All organizations use anti-virus software, set up firewalls, encrypt sensitive data, and use multi-factor authentication to protect pertinent patient data (Strachan, 2018). However, as softwares are constantly used to chart patient care the software updates could be delayed. Furthermore, If the updates are not done on a timely manner due to staff convenience because they are lengthy and time consuming, the data can be breached (Strachan, 2018). One strategy I have researched to prevent breach of data beach is encryption technology for pertinent patient data. Encryption is not required by HIPAA, but it also does not consider breach of data if the encrypted data is hacked into (10 Tips to Prevent a Healthcare Data Breach, 2018).
