Discussion Board Question 5: In the film An Inconvenient Sequel, one of the critical issues that came up during the Paris Climate meetings was how to meet the energy needs of developing nations while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Since right now, it is much less expensive to build coal-fire plants, for example, than to invest in clean renewables such a solar or wind, which makes it more attractive to leaders of these nations. Defenders of the developing nations state that it is unfair to make poor nations shoulder the same burden of conversion costs of changing to clean energy that wealthier industrial democracies do and that they should be allowed to use fossil fuels for a decade or so like the rest of the world did for 150 years since the industrial revolution. Do you think this is a reasonable argument, and that they should be allowed to do so or should another solution be found?
