The aim of this assessment is to demonstrate your knowledge of the potential barriers to promoting self-management in a person with a chronic illness. The assessment requires you to reflect on and critically evaluate your development as a facilitator of learning. To assist you to develop in this role you are required to prepare and present a 10 to 20-minute teaching episode.
Part a): Presentation
Identify a self-management/health promoting topic targeting clients, health care colleagues or a community group. Review the literature surrounding your chosen topic and develop a session plan identifying key learning objective.
Prepare a 10-20-minute teaching/learning episode. When developing the session consider the evaluation process you will undertake.
Present the session to your target audience and seek feedback from the session.
Part b): Summary
Following the presentation, you must write an academic paper that shows evidence of knowledge and understanding of the potential barriers to education and promotion of self-management. This will be in the form of an evaluation of your teaching episode. The summary will incorporate critical reflection of your own performance and may include feedback obtained from participants. With your paper you may include your session plan, any notes or AV presentation material or other supporting materials as appendices.
